Description

Pokemon Recharged Emerald is an enhanced version of the original Pokémon Emerald featuring extensive engine upgrades, graphical improvements, and numerous Pokémon changes. It also introduces many quality-of-life features and offers various difficulty options, including a built-in Nuzlocke mode.

Engine changes

  • [Not implemented yet] Game has proper decapitalization now.
  • Key item wheel to register 4 items at the same time.
  • Trainers have more options now, so certain trainers can have EVS, better IV distribution for stuff like Hidden Power and even some trainers can name their Pokémon or have shinies!
  • Smart re-usable Repel and Lure system
  • Added a system that prevents giving non gen 3 items to Pokémon, which allows having new items like nature mints and bottle caps.
  • Switch between Pokémon by pressing SELECT in the Party Menu.
  • Battle moves will show its type GFX and special/physical category when selecting them.
  • You can press START in battle to show info of the selected move, like its description and power.
  • You can run in Pacifidlog Town
  • Starter PID will get generated while the Birch’s bag UI gets loaded. You will be able to see if a starter is shiny before selecting it.
  • The wall clock will show you the selected time before setting up the time for the first time.
  • Tutorial Battle Ralts Can’t Be Shiny or Knocked Out
  • Added an NPC that will tell you which Hidden Power your Pokémon has. ||NPC inside a house in Sootopolis city.

Graphics

  • Outworld graphics changed a bit too to make it more modernized and more inspired by FRLG changes.
  • Battle backgrounds are Fire Red based.
  • Object Events now have more colors, they also follow the style from Pokémon FR/LG.
  • Updated battle interface to a more modernized ui, following the base design of Pokémon BW adapted to GBA.

Pokemon-Related

  • Pokémon can now follow you in the overworld, utilizing the follower system by merrp.

  • Nature mints and bottle caps are available, offering new ways to optimize your Pokémon.
  • Enhanced battle information now displays move details and type categories during combat.
  • [Oval Charm not obtainable yet] Breeding mechanics have been upgraded, featuring the Masuda method, 100% nature inheritance with gender-unbiased Everstones, and Oval Charm support.
  • Lures have been added for quicker access to rarer encounters.
  • [Not implemented yet] The Linking Cord item has been introduced to evolve trade-only evolutions. It’s provided by your rival during the adventure and is unmissable.
  • The shiny rate has been adjusted to 1/4,000, allowing for extra shiny rolls through specific methods while maintaining compatibility with vanilla games.
  • Feebas tiles will always yield a Feebas encounter.
  • A color variation system based on Pokémon personalities, similar to the one in Pokémon Stadium games, adds subtle visual differences to individual Pokémon.

Getting Items

  • Kiri now gives out Wiki, Mago, and Aguav berries, allowing more than just 5 of each per playthrough.
  • The Exchange Corner BP prizes have been updated to include more items, with many available at reduced prices.
  • TMs are categorized into three groups with items in the same category sharing the same price.
  • [Not Yet Implemented] All TMs will be purchasable in the future.
  • The Gen 3 Exp. Share is replaced with a global Exp. Share as a key item. You can still obtain the original Exp. Share as a prize or through trades.

  • A Lucky Egg is now obtainable as a floor item in the Safari Zone.
  • The DexNav, available early in the game, lists encounters for each route.

Quality of Life Changes

  • Running is enabled from the start of the game.
  • Maximum money increased from 999,999 to 9,999,999.
  • Bag pockets can now hold up to 999 of each item.
  • Running indoors is enabled.
  • You can press B to instantly flee from wild Pokémon.
  • A new Medicine pocket has been added to the bag, supporting up to 50 items for better organization.
  • Increased bag pocket item limits:
    • Items: 30 to 60
    • Key Items: 30 to 50
    • Poké Balls: 16 to 32
  • HM moves can be forgotten at any time.
  • HMs can be used without learning them as long as you meet the requirements and the Pokémon can learn the move.
  • You can trade with vanilla games right from the beginning.
  • Lag when entering a Pokémon Center has been removed.
  • Pokémon stats are recalculated after each battle.
  • The RTC has been replaced with an internal clock.
  • The later-gen Exp. Share is now compatible with older versions.
  • Cut trees now stay permanently removed after being cut down.
  • Premier Balls are available in shops, just like in Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee.
  • Items are displayed in plural when obtained in multiples.
  • Berries planted on Routes 119, 120, and 123 no longer need watering and always yield the maximum amount.
  • Flash remains active in areas where it was previously used.
  • Pokémon from the Day Care can be retrieved directly to the PC Box.

In-Game Modes

  • Easy and Challenge Modes:
    • Trainer levels adjust based on the mode: higher levels in Challenge mode and lower in Easy mode.
    • In Easy mode, enemy Pokémon have no EVs or IVs.
    • In Challenge mode, key trainers (like Gym Leaders, Elite Four, and bosses) have improved IVs, EVs, and optimized movesets, with some party changes.
  • In-Game Nuzlocke Mode:
    • Runs end after defeating the Champion.
    • You can catch multiple Pokémon, but newly caught Pokémon are marked as fainted until the Champion is defeated.
  • In-Game Level Caps:
    • Introduces level caps for a balanced progression.
  • Extra experience:
    • Grant a bit more Exp., with extra boosts available in Nuzlocke and level cap modes.

New Options

  • Instant Text Speed: Enjoy faster text display for quick gameplay.
  • Blind Battle Style: Similar to Shift mode, but without revealing the opponent’s next Pokémon.
  • Trainer Calls: Toggle regular trainer calls off while keeping important ones active.
  • Unit System: Switch between metric and imperial units.
  • Auto-Run: Run by default, with B used to walk instead.

Future Updates Planned

  • Make all TMs purchasable.
  • Increase BP rewards in battle facilities.
  • Introduce a new key item, “Power Items,” for enhanced EV training.
  • Add post-game battles and rematches for more endgame content.
  • Implement Elite 4 rematches.
  • Ensure all move tutors are fully reusable.
  • Complete decapitalization across the entire game.
  • Add support for linking sprites with Heliodor/Recharged Yellow.
  • Make the Shiny Charm obtainable.
  • Make the Oval Charm obtainable.
  • Possibly include translations to other languages.

Bug fixes

  • Lots of vanilla bug fixes, might get properly documented in the future.
    • This includes -but is not limited to- plenty of bugs with battle facilities, cloning Pokémon, issues with poké blocks, and breeding.
