Description

Pokemon Intense Indigo Color is an alternate version of the original Intense Indigo, now fully recolored for a fresh visual experience.

After the success of Green Celebrations in color, I decided to recolor Intense Indigo using DannyE’s color patches and some hex editing to make it a reality. The result? A fully-colored version with Gen 1 or Gen 2 sprites, giving the game a new visual flair while keeping the challenging gameplay intact.

All original in-game features and mechanics remain the same, with the added bonus of vibrant, nostalgic colors to enhance your adventure.

Enjoy a fresh, challenging take on a classic adventure with rebalanced progression, new features, and a world full of surprises!

Disclaimer

I did not create Intense Indigo. It was originally made by the legendary ROM hacker SinisterHoodedFigure and is widely regarded as one of the best and hardest Gen 1 ROM hacks. As a personal favorite of mine, I wanted to bring it to life with a splash of color.

Story

Welcome to the Aizome Region, where the prestigious Pokémon League World Tournament is being hosted! Trainers from all over the world have flocked to this region, each determined to claim the title of Champion. But in Aizome, the competition is fierce, and many trainers will stop at nothing to achieve fame and glory.

Your journey begins as a contender, but you’re not alone. Your rival, armed with a rare and powerful Pokémon inherited from Professor Oak, will be one of your toughest challenges on the road to victory. To qualify for the World Tournament, you must first defeat eight difficult Gym Leaders, each posing unique trials.

However, a darker threat looms. Team Rocket has resurfaced, more dangerous than ever, and has allied with a corrupt Pokémon corporation called The Trade. Together, they exploit the chaos of the tournament to tighten their grip on Aizome, advancing their plan for world domination. Stopping them won’t be easy, but it’s up to you to rise to the challenge.

Do you have what it takes to defeat your rivals, topple Team Rocket, and become the next World Champion? The fate of the Aizome Region—and the world—depends on it!

Features

  • The core gameplay is similar to the original Blue version—collect 8 Gym Badges to qualify for the World Tournament. However, numerous quality-of-life enhancements have been added for a smoother experience.
  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • The garbage puzzle in the third Gym is removed.
    • You can sell nuggets for massive sums of money, available after obtaining VIP tickets.
    • Rare Candies are purchasable for just $1 early in the game to make leveling up easier. No need for repetitive wild battles unless you prefer it.
    • Vitamins (like Protein and Calcium) become purchasable for $1 later in the game, helping you take on tougher opponents.
  • New Content:
    • The game features a new storyline, new bosses, and characters, and a fresh region to explore.
    • The Aizome region is full of surprises, and while the focus is more on gameplay, the region offers plenty of exploration and challenge.
  • Expanded Pokémon Experience:
    • All 151 original Pokémon are available, and each has a reworked movepool.
    • Early-game Pokémon evolve and learn strong moves sooner, adding more variety to your team (e.g., Vulpix learns Flamethrower before Charmander evolves).
    • Water types are easily accessible early on with the availability of Old and Good Rods.
    • Evolution stones (Moon, Leaf, etc.) are obtainable as early as the first cave, providing faster access to powerful Pokémon.
  • Rebalanced Gameplay:
    • Every Trainer and Gym Leader has a completely different lineup, focusing on type coverage and strategy.
    • Trade evolutions now happen through level-up (when they evolve is a secret).
    • Some game-breaking Pokémon like Alakazam and Jolteon are only available after getting all seven badges for added balance.
  • Improved Visuals: The front sprites of all Pokémon have been revamped to resemble those from Yellow, Gold, Silver, or Crystal while keeping back sprites unchanged.
  • Enhanced Exploration:
    • Caves, routes, cities, and buildings have been redesigned for a fresh experience.
    • Early access to Revives and Repels, and abundant money, reduce the tedium of grinding.
    • HM use is streamlined: Cut is only used once, Flash once, and Strength twice. Surf is the most-used HM as it remains viable in battle.
  • Signs throughout the game indicate the highest-level trainers in a given area, so you’ll always know what to expect.
  • And finally…
    • There is a very high yet mostly legitimate difficulty setting, which will take Generation 1 skill.
    • Be warned, this is quite possibly the hardest generation one Pokemon hacks out there, and it’s among the hardest Pokemon hacks in general. Since very high difficulty is the main focus of this hack, it will not hold back.
    • If anyone is familiar with Pokemon Blue Kaizo, this one is several leagues more difficult, yet at the same time, has quite a bit more anti-frustration features.
    • You can catch 151 Pokemon, but there are some factors concerning that as well.
